Teacher Next Door Programs

   There are an abundance of teacher homeownership programs available at the federal and local levels. The Department for Housing and Urban Development utilizes a program called the Teacher Next Door Initiative which provides a substantial discount off the price of a HUD home in certain revitalization zones.

   Various state and county organizations also provide opportunities through local lenders and multifamily housing developments. For one, California has instituted the Extra Credit Teacher Home Purchase Program, which provides down payment incentives to teachers willing to serve in a high priority district. In addition to down payment assistance the ECTP also offers a lower interest rate.

   Many national lenders also provide their own teacher housing programs that may consist of 100% financing or reduced closing costs.
